Data Processing - Involves Use Of Machlnes
Business Data Processing, taught as a 21f2 hour block course
under our Magnet Program here at Northwestern, was hailed as
an extremely rewarding educational experience for not just our
students, but for students drawn from all our city high schools.
It was considered job orientated and many students actually held
jobs while taking the course. In fact. students were encouraged
to interview for jobs.
Before taking Data Processing, courses such as typing.
accounting. algebra and computer math are not necessary. but
were proven helpful to students.
Mr. Rod Wilson was the instructor who emphasized certain
important goals for the class. They are as follows: Clj to satisfy
the curiosity of students who want to know how datas are
processed by electronic computers: C21 to help prepare students
for careers in which they need to understand automated data
processing, even though their jobs may not be directly connected
with electronic computers: 13D to acquaint students with the job
openings in data processing and the qualifications needed to fill
them and C45 to give students a basic foundation on which they
can build in order to prepare themselves for careers in electronic

Advanced Accounting and Computing, a speciality
program course, was offered once again here at
Northwestern for a 21f2 hOuI' block and mainly for seniors. A
couple of basic goals for the course were Q15 to adequately
prepare the student who planned to go out to work in an
accounting department and 12D to help train those going on
to college to major in Accounting. To be admitted to this
program. each student must have had Accounting I and II.
In order to better serve and train our students, some of the
finest equipment was used. To name a few, students were able
to use the Mini Computer, Keypunch Machines, Calculators,
Dec Writer Terminal, Hewlett Packard Computer. CRT
Terminal, Card Reader and the High Speed Printer.
Successfully completing the program, most students are able
to get a job and perform their duties adequately in an
accounting department. A number of students have sufficient
background to go on to college to major in Accounting. Mr.
Lou Carpenter was the instructor for this course.
Kelvin and Dennis may not agree, but thats what it says here.
These books just have to balance!
My goal is a job in an accounting department.

Auto Mechanics, one of four shared time classes here
at Northwestern, is held for a 21f2 hour block with a class
x iw-eQ3 +Twf
size of fifteen students. The classes are taught by two
well trained instructors, Mr. James Graham and Mr.
Carl Crawford. Mr. Crawford specialized in teaching his
students to repair brakes and front end alignments. Mr.
Graham taught automotive fundamentals. He was
mainly concerned with getting students prepared for one
of the speciality programs in the automotive field. The
main goal of automotive fundamentals class was to
provide each student with a thorough understanding of
the design, construction and operation of automotive
'Tm just not interested in that stuff".
Elliott is a fine student-mechanic.
