Driver Education consists of classroom work, range and highway driving. In the classroom, laws of nature and man are taught, as well as the mechanics and maintenance of the automobile. On the range students practice driving maneuvers and parking. On the road, students apply these skills in actual driving situations. Mrs. Mildred Fisher is the teacher-consultant in the EMI Program as she works with teachers, parents and students. Her conselees are programmed into classes stressing reading. mathematics, science and social studies. They elect other courses in which they have special interest. The teachers who teach in this special program are Mrs. Deborah Cato. Mrs. Ida Mumford and Mrs. Jolene Peacock. Special emphasis is placed by Mrs. Fisher on planning vocational goals and working with Vocational Rehabilitation Services. This is done so that her students are equipped to obtain employment or receive specialized training upon their graduation from high school. Mr. Larry Simpson works as a teacher-consultant in assisting his students to succeed in reading, mathematics, social studies and science. Group work is done in working on social problems. learning problem solving techniques and developing coping skills. Home Ec Prepares For Future 9 'C' 4" M Home Economics teaches a variety of useful skills. Some of the classes offered students were Sewing With Flair and Food Prepara- tion. New equipment used in the department this year was electric and gas ranges and the viking and singer sewing machines. Sewing instructions were offered to men and women as a means of looking into our world of fashion and design. It is recommended that every student. both men and women, take at least one course in Home Economics Education to acquaint himself with the art of day to day living. Mrs. Ann Howie is Northwestern's only instructor in Home Economics. Home Economics' main objective this year is to prepare the students for domestic and independence, in and away from home. it it qzlku Q A H K. S - fs.
