Driver Education is a program geared to
develop a positive driver attitude and a respect for
traffic laws. Driver Education consists of
classroom work, range and highway driving. In the
classroom, laws of nature and man are taught, as
well as the mechanics and maintenance of the
automobile. On the range students practice
driving maneuvers and parking. On the road,
students apply these skills in actual driving
situations. The main goals for driver Education
and Personal Security Education stressed
self-reliance and personal responsibility. Mr,

Home Ec Prepares For Future
Home Economics teaches a variety of useful
skills. Some of the classes offered students
were Sewing With Flair and Food Prepara-
tion. New equipment used in the department
this year was electric and gas ranges and the
viking and singer sewing machines. Sewing
instructions were offered to men and women
as a means of looking into our world of fashion
and design. It is recommended that every
student. both men and women, take at least
one course in Home Economics Education to
acquaint himself with the art of day to day
living. Mrs. Ann Howie is Northwestern's only
instructor in Home Economics. Home
Economics' main objective this year is to
prepare the students for domestic and
independence, in and away from home.
