Mrs. Mildred Fisher is the teacher-consultant in the EMI
Program as she works with teachers, parents and students. Her
conselees are programmed into classes stressing reading.
mathematics, science and social studies. They elect other courses
in which they have special interest.
The teachers who teach in this special program are Mrs.
Deborah Cato. Mrs. Ida Mumford and Mrs. Jolene Peacock.
Special emphasis is placed by Mrs. Fisher on planning
vocational goals and working with Vocational Rehabilitation
Services. This is done so that her students are equipped to obtain
employment or receive specialized training upon their graduation
from high school.
Mr. Larry Simpson works as a teacher-consultant in assisting
his students to succeed in reading, mathematics, social studies and
science. Group work is done in working on social problems. learning
problem solving techniques and developing coping skills. Teachers
and students benefit from his counseling and service.

Students Excel In Special Education

Mr. Miles Carter. formerly the instrumental music teacher at
Cook and Stewart Elementary Schools. now directs our
instrumental groups here at Northwestern. Mr. Carter teaches
Instrumental Study. Wind Er1SCrI1bl6 and two classes in Family
Living. He works diligently to improve the students' musical skills
such as note and rhythm reading and technique. Our band students
have had the opportunity to participate in the annual District Solo
and Ensemble and Band Festivals and many times performed in
concerts here at Northwestern and most of our junior high
feederfschools. We all enjoyed the great spirit displayed by our
band throughout the school year. Mr. Carter is pleased with the
progress of his students and is looking forward to even better things
next year. Any student having any interest in a class in
instrumental music. please Contact Mr. Carter or any band student
in room 506.

POSITIONING AND SIGNALLING ARE TAUGHT FOR RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS
Driver Education is a program geared to
develop a positive driver attitude and a respect for
traffic laws. Driver Education consists of
classroom work, range and highway driving. In the
classroom, laws of nature and man are taught, as
well as the mechanics and maintenance of the
automobile. On the range students practice
driving maneuvers and parking. On the road,
students apply these skills in actual driving
situations. The main goals for driver Education
and Personal Security Education stressed
self-reliance and personal responsibility. Mr,
