Wildcat wrestlers, led by state runners-up seniors Harrell Milhouse and James
Holliman, set many team and individual records during the 1977-78 season. Team
records would include a 6th consecutive dual meet season without a loss, and NW's
first victory ever at the exclusive Lansing Eastern Invitational, a tournament which
is reserved for the state's best teams. The team also won its 6th Championship Title
of the past 7 years, and its 5th Valley West Crown of the past 6 years. "I've never
had a more dedicated and closely knit team, that took to the mats this year", stated
Coach Paul Holdren, who has never suffered a defeat, while posting a coaching
record of 28-0-1, with the Wildcats.
Eight varsity lettermen earned the coveted "Belt Buckle" award for posting an
individual season record with 25 or more wins. These men were Robert Montgomery
C29-45, Harrell Milhouse Q42-35, Wendell White Q31-123, Criag Ross Q35-121, Dunell
Chaney Q25-151, James Holliman C43-53, George Colston Q27-12-lj, and Sam Brown
Many underclassmen earned varsity letters as a result of winning varsity
tournaments. This extremely talented group, with proper dedication and spirit,
could surpass the accomplishments of this past year's team. The challenge has been
made by the seniors, only time will tell if it has been accepted. Clint Sanders C18-2j,
who became the first sophomore s ince Milhouse to win a city title, will be leading
the group, along with William McNeal C19-2j, Derrek Williams Q20-145, Robert
Jackson Q11-6-lj, Vincent Dixon C15-41, C. J. Herron Q21-GQ, and Charles Gill
C10-101. Many others have the potential to help, Michael Vance, Robert Taylor, and
Craig Clemons to mention just a few.
Congratulations men, and a job well donel
