• wm Look out ABC, ITV is on the air .i Instructional television became a valuable IjH teaching aid as students trained to go into the professional world. Students learned the proper techniques of teaching and speaking in front of cameras while athletes learned from r: their mistakes on replays. ITV provided more than just supplemental linstruction to the regular classroom programs. lit offered different departments to equipment land know-how to do their own filming. liTechnicians also gained experience by repair- [ing department equipment. Lectures and inter- views were video-taped for classes such as jSpeech 101 and Introduction to Film Study. ITV Ihad an outlet to Maryville through channel 10 Ion cable T.V. The programs were informative Iwith a campus and community calender. Dr. Robert Bohlken, chairman of the Speech and Theater Department, explained, The emphasis will change from instructional productions to the training of students for the professional world. Larry Lewellen, ITV techni- cian, compared ITV students to driver educa- tion students. When the class is finished they go on to a different automobile, but the driving techniques are the same. When our students leave, they go on to different cameras and studios, but they use the same techniques they learned here. ITV was confined closely to campus but plans were made to develop Channel 10. Ideas included live news broadcasts and more public, rather than campus-oriented programs.
