Dedication Perhaps the most difficult task presented to a yearbook staff is choosing that to which this particular volume will be dedicated. It is the duty of the staff, usually, to pick one individual who best typifies the facets of the theme of the book as well as embodying dedication to and love of the institution. This year ' s staff found this an even more difficult job than usual. So, in a sense we cir- cumnavigated the problem, and yet we feel we have also faced it squarely and solved it. We have chosen to dedicate the 1969 Tower not to a man nor an institution but to a concept, a concept which typifies, we hope, the aims and end product of the entire process of education. That concept is UNDERSTANDING. We feel that this is appropriate because the theme of the 1969 yearbook is INTERACTION - REAC- TION, which we feel best typifies society and each individual ' s existence in it. We believe that the primary motivating force and resulting product of the interaction and reaction of society should be UNDERSTANDING. The opposite page is our rather poor attempt at illustrating the abstract concept to which we have dedicated the book. It, to us, exemplifies the shining fountain of knowledge and understanding which illuminates the darkness of hate, fear, ignorance, and mis- understanding. We hope that we have, through creation of this yearbook, ful- filled in some small way the desire to create understanding among all men.
