I NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE COLLEGE ROBERT P. FOSTER. PRESIDENT MARYVILLE. MISSOURI OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT JanucLTy 10, 19d9 TO THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY OF THE NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE COLLEGE: The many tasks Involved in expediting the smooth and efficient operation of a college are shared by the entire institutional family. Those responsibilities unique to the College President are varied far beyond popular realization. These tasks are often exciting, challenging, and important; at times mundane and tedious. Regardless of their characteristics, the President must have assistance and support in the performance of all of his tasks. I wish to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the faculty, staff, and student body who have so ably and willingly given assistance throughout the year. Let me hasten to add that I do not refer here to the normal activities to which you devote your time in teaching and learning, although this too seems to me to be meritorious. Rather, I refer to that which is exemplified by the quiet leadership exerted to keep the college on course. During these volatile and perplexing times in vriiich we live, the achievement of a relatively ordered society in which growth in cultural and social perspective can accompany learning for vocational and economic security does not come by accident. You have achieved this social order through determined effort and you are deserving of commendation. It is important to our future and to the future of civi-lization that human beings can continue to rationally and orderly plan their experiences to achieve their carefully conceived goals. Too many forces are attempting to break down this orderliness and substitute anarchy. I have every confidence that you, the students and faculty of Northwest Missouri State College, will continue to manifest sound judgment in selecting your goals and your methods of achieving them. The Northwest Missouri State College over the years has graduated many outstanding young men and women. Their achievements are quite notable and this institution has, as a result, found glory in those achieve- ments. What is happening on this campus today is truly a credit to the many thousands vriio have preceded this student body. The spirit, the attitude, the ideals, and the integrity of the men and women on this campus are indeed indicative of the high standards being maintained by those vrfio are here. I am certain that in the future you will look back on these years as being among the very finest of your life. Robert P. Foster President
