Plans were made to make this the larjiest Homecominjj ever at NWMSC. Jusl as the preparations were heiufi; started, the flu bujj; hit the campus, stripping most of the participating organizations of their manpower. An emergency meeting was held and it was decided that the Suprem- acy Trophy would not be awarded this year, but organizations woidd participate on a prize nmney basis. As November 2nd drew near, all groups were recovering from the attack, and a much reduced, but very spectacular, parade was hebl. Miss Donna Sue Jones was selected as Homecoming Queen, and reigned over the day ' s activities which ended with a dance attended by a capacity crowd. STUDENT SENATE As co-ordinator of student activi- ties, the Student Senate, headed by President Jerry Overton, sponsored several highlights of the 19. ' J7-1958 year. Freshman Orientation Week led the list with several students re- turning to the campus early to guide new members of the Senate in discussions and later in Fresh- man initiation. After a period in which green beanies and signs dominated the campus, the bell rang for Walk-out Day, traditionally a closely guarded secret, and after the events of the day, the freshmen were heralded as genuine collegiates. Other Senate activities included supervision and securing of a new bulletin board, supervision of elec- tions, selection of a Who ' s Who ' s Committee, and a complete Consti- tution revision. The Student Senate ' s goal for greater student participation was a challenge met by more than a fifty per cent up-surge in campus elec- tion voting. 7.sf roir: liarbar i Jiiliu-, I ' anl White, Co-chairman; Dr. John Harr, Faculty Chairman; Beverly Murphy, Co-chairman; and Norma Long. 2nd row: Homer Williams, Dick Hargrave, William Merrick, Kenneth Jacobs, Merle Sorenson, Don Pierpoint, Wayne Jackson, Robert Wade, Jim Tussey, Lew Maris, Don Kixniiller, Larry.
