Wanting to make no mistakes, Joan Morgan checks carefully many cata- logues. To some the terms guidance and counseling are new, unfamilar, and per- haps, strange. However, guidance and counseling have always been a necessary part of public education. In the past the classroom teacher or the principal had the responsibility of these services and they were primarily concerned with collecting and teaching occupational information. TODAY guidance is concerned with the in- dividual as a child, the youth, and an adult who is developing interest and abilities, setting goals and plans, meeting personal and social problems, and eventually em- erging from school as a responsible citizen and worker ready to take his place in society. While we have a full time guidance service available to ASSIST the individual student and teacher, the classroom teacher continues to be the best guidance coun- selor and friend of a student. BO
