Winding Down The end of school, as always, was filled with activities and anticipation of the coming summer. Victory celebrations swept the school as students rejoiced in North- west's second state baseball champi- onship in school history. Coach Darrel Palmer, who also coached the state champs on the cross-country team, said, 'tlt was super! A dream of a lifetime! The flurry of events ending the school year began with the annual awards assembly May 6, More than 50 awards were presented, with Jamie Jacobs and Eric Percival claiming the top Classen Medals of l-lonor. Eight other seniors won Classeri awards. Ten received Faculty awards, and eighteen were tapped for Princi- pal's awards. The prom lvlay 20 and Senior Ser- mon lvlay 22 were attended by most seniors. l-louseholder's Gridiron highlighted A GRACIOUS GOODBYE is given his stall by Dr. June Dawkins. principal, and host to the annual last-day luncheon for teachers. the Senior Breakfast at Lincoln Plaza lvlay 25. Lieutenant Governor George Nigh was guest speaker. The following night Jamie, Steve Hecker and Phil Albert stressed indi- vidualism in a variety of approaches in their commencement speeches. Who ever said summer vacation meant you had to go somewhere? A lot of people found that just staying home and Hletting go was the best answer to vacation. Whatever the choice, the out-of- doors drew the most teens as an unu- sually hot, dry summer wore on late into September. lvlost students held part-time jobs, and 150 picked up credits in North- west's summer school. Softball and basketball teams, spon- sored by church and civic groups, attracted a large number of students. Other people went off on their own and just did their own thing-painting, sewing or just flipping a frisbee. y NEW THlNGS to learn in a new country are made pleasant for foreign exchange student Jani Jokinen when April Kanis teaches him to throw a frisbee, READY to dive is Christie Boydston, who, with her companion.
