Gigi Gulledge, a member of international Fellowship, inc., lived with a family of seven in Caracas, Venezuela, during July and August. Gigi said that her biggest dif- ficulty was in communicating since she knew no Spanish, and they, very little English. Another problem was that no previous Northwest student had ever been an exchangee and Gigi had no idea of what was expected of her. Highlighting her trip were visits to bullfights, serving as maid of honor in a real Spanish wedding, and a celebrity guest appearance on a local rock musical T.V. program. Gigi took a little of Northwest with her to Caracas, as she was the very first person to roll a Venezuelan yard. Commenting on her trip, Gigi said that it was an unforget- table experience, but she was glad to get home in time for the first football game this fall. Beth Miller, the lone Northwest representative, ac- companied a group from Concord Senior High to France in June and July. Beth, a typical tourist, got lost on the Paris subway and was rescued by a nice French gentleman who was selling flowers. Among her fondest memories was the French rock concert in Nice, where she stayed in the former palace of a Russian czar. Beth's most daring escapade was a skylift ride to the top of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the French Alps. Asked about her favorite place, Beth replied that she fell in love with the French Riviera, but was scared to death at Saint-Malo, a real ghost town. Though Beth enjoyed her trip, she emphasized that America was truly beautiful. 1 Q '?. k,f' yi, + hiv Km Q., Grganizations 1 1 2 4 1 , i I enry Wadsworth Longfellow f 4 1 I f'1' vw- 391 .Q '53 1532i k Q25 E?AM1? Time and again with grim defeat staring them in the face they came through-with a critical first down, a vital extra point conversion, an intercepted pass, a fumble recovery, or a game-saving tackle. With great heart and gallant spirit the Trojans took the game to the enemy, dis- playing much innate ability, highly-developed skill, heart-warming comradeship, and sheer old- fashioned guts-truly, a team Northwest can remember with pride. Under the guidance of Head Coach Arden Ray, ably assisted by Johnny Harward, Dennis Shinn and Jim Blair, the Northwest Trojans began a long, gruel- ing season with many days of hard work to prepare for their opening August 29. The highlights of the year were victories over Kannapolis and Central Cabarrus, intense inter- county rivals. 1975 Record Northwest Kannapolis Northwest Forest Hills Northwest Monroe Northwest Mt. It is not often that a student body has such an opportunity to express its appreciation to a teacher and coach for a job well-done. Coach Flay is a man who, if given thirty men, would make an army to be feared. In seven years at Northwest he won forty-nine games, averaging seven wins a season, quite an enviable record as head coach. To you, Coach Ray, we say Thanks Northwest Acquires A New Sport. . Unfortunately, high school wrestling has not always received the recognition due such an exciting and com- plex sport. However, the situation is changing, and Northwest Cabarrus' wrestling team is doing all it can to promote interest in the sportg we can be especially proud of our young, inspired grapplers. These young men have earned the respect and admiration of the student body through their hard work and fine performances. With some tough juniors returning plus good sophomores and freshmen moving up, the Trojan wrestlers are definitely to be reckoned with next year. 176 i ltes, John Wayne 1 oy Floyd Lef wa... Many of the slugging Trojans returned in hope of making this coming season the biggest and the best. Coach Ber- nie Edwards has done an outstanding job coaching these young men. A coach such as he makes any player proud to be on the team. Many students were on hand to see the Trojans slide to vic- tory. The addition of these boys to varsity standing will fill gaps not only in the starting nine but also in the all important bench. We are sure these young men will bring home many victories. Sitting here alone, so many thoughts and memories flow endlessly through my mind. Each year passes leaving special, un- ique memories. Though bitter or sweet you carry them with you forever. As I look back over this year it was very significant in that it was the beginning of the bicentennial celebration of our country. The Dynamis staff tried to capture the spirit of '76 at Northwest. Wesincerely hope that our efforts will make a lasting contribution to your memories of this year. You made this book-in your moments of triumphs and at your agony of defeat. I would like to say thank you to the Dynamis staff, Mrs. Cooke, and everyone else who made this yearbook possible. l hope that you are well-pleased and felt it was worthwhile to have helped produce the 1976-edition of the Dynamis-take this book now and cherish it as a living record of this year. od E Hg. +6 beevj 9- N Xi gb wing 'QW 'A ma 5 5 if dass.
