'77 Year Proves pecial for lass of '80 The sophomore year is a special one for the students of Northview. With a year of high school experience behind them, the students begin to feel more comfortable, relaxed, and important, as they grow closer to their dreams and the futures that they will possess. One thing that makes the sophomore year exciting is G. S. R. , otherwise known as General State Requirements. This class, required for all students, and taken by most students as sophomores, teaches the fundamentals of driv- ing and first aid. Many of these skills prove vital for each student as he goes on in life. Sophomores are the only class that have their own squad of cheerleaders, which helps them greatly in raising spirit and gives them representation. These girls spend their time cheering for the sophomore football team, which plays at the District Field at all home games before the varsity. Having a separate squad of cheerleaders, and a football team, makes the sophomores begin to feel recognized. Con- fidence and pride is established and the sophomores begin to get fired up. U The Sophomore Class is certainly one of the most spirited. The most special thing for many of the sophomores is the choosing and ordering of class rings. These rings are spe- cial because they will help the students to recall the mem- ories of Northview High School! 113:212- ' a eee Janet Hudgens 'lf f ' ffl-fi . if e . llard urking fficers , egislaturs l The Sophomore Class officers, working among them- selves and with the Sophomore legislators, organized a variety of fund raising activities. The money raised from these activities, was put into a fund for next year's prom. These officers could be seen every Monday, after school, at the Leadership meetings, voicing opinions and suggestions to help better situations between classes and clubs here at Northview. Leading this year's Sophomore Class was President Chris Heinze. Chris was not only active in Leader- ship, but also in sports, playing on the school's ten- nis, basketball and softball teams. During her Soph- omore year, Chris was a member of Girls' League and GALS. In her spare time, Chris likes to water-ski and go to the beach. Vice-President Geneva McNamara, also athletic, participated on the school's tennis, basketball, and badminton teams. She was also a member of Girls' League and Rally Club during her sophomore year. Geneva's hobbies include going to the mountains and playing the drums. Playing on Northview's tennis and badminton teams, was Secretary Mary Lou Nichols. Mary Lou was also a member of Girls' League, AFS and VIKING staff during her sophomore year. Mary Lou's spare time activities include horseback riding and going on adventurous bike rides. A page editor on the Valhalla staff, and also a mem- ber of the VIKING staff, Treasurer Kelly Colwellis main interests were centered around writing. Kelly enjoys going to the beach, Waterskiing and swimming. These officers proved to be successful, as the sopho- mores earned an ample amount of money to start plans for next year's prom.
