REGGIE JACKSON POWERS YANKS TO SERIES VICTORY Reggie Jackson, the heralded right fielder who plays for the New York Yankees, led the Yanks to a 1977 World Series victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jackson knocked out six home runs in the series to set a record for the most roundtrippers hit in the summer spectacular. He hit three of them in the final game, two of those off Dodger ace Tommy John. This tied the record for most home runs in a series game which was set in 1926 by Babe Ruth, one of the greatest home run hitters of all time. Jackson's regular season was a disappointing one, due mostly to mana- gerial conflicts and disputed contract negotiations. The season was one of his lowest in batting average and run production, although he was in the race for most home runs. After Jackson hit his third homer of the final game, the fans gave him a standing ovation. When the game was over, pandemonium struck and the stadium went wild. Jackson fought his way into the dugout and was faced with the questions of several reporters. He was told that by achieving this record, people were comparing him with names such as Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb. 5 PM - X ,vG, . otable Senior?-S A few major changes ocurred in the procedure for choosing Senior Best this year. Since in past years less then 4095 of the Senior Class voted, a limit was set. One hundred or more peo- ple had to vote in order for the categories to count. As the num- ber of votes was counted, the seniors went over the set limit, recording the largest turnout in years. Also, the actual voting process was altered so it was difficult for anyone to vote more than once. As seniors entered room L-1, a PTA member checked their names off an IBM printout sheet fcontaining names of everyone in the Sen- ior Classl and distributed the write-in ballots. Traditionally, the ten categories that received the largest number of votes were acknowledged. This year, however, because the votes were so close the top twelve categories were filled.
