to Gseqjo Since they were started in 1948, Bank of America's Achievement Awards have developed into one of the most highly respected student award programs in the nation. It now includes more than 300,000 graduating seniors from nearly every high school in California. The selection begins at the individual schools where faculty committees select certificate winners in up to twelve spe- cific academic fields. The committee then chooses students in each of four general study fields: Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, Science and Mathematics, and Vocational Arts. Scholastic ability is a major factor in the selection, although participation in school and community also is evaluated to show a student's total accomplish- ments. The Daughters of the American Revo- lution Award is chosen on the basis of leadership, patriotism, service to the school and the community, and de- pendability qualities. BING CROSBY LEAVES LASTING IMPRESSIO Bing Crosby, noted singer and entertainer, as he appeared in 1970. Show Biz? 'AIt's been my life for 50 years. It's been a long, long pull and I've had great results. I can't complain if it stops tomorrow. Tomorrow came October, 1977 at the age of 73. He died of a heart attack after leaving the 18th hole of a golf course. Crosby was a singer: the typical crooner, who made 850 recordings in- cluding White Christmas at almost 40 million copies-the best selling singles of all time. Playing golf, plugging instant orange juice and making millions in a career that proved that being casual had its own rewards. Crosby is a man of all the moods in all the years you care to think about. We can measure our lives and circumstances by his songs. He has certainly been listened to by more people than anyone who ever lived. AMY HO KEVIN K. HOLDEN YT' 'ri' FLORENCE J. HENSON KATHY A. HENSON I JULIE M. HERITAGE RUDY C. HERRERA .IULEE A.
