Varsity team members were chosen after a ten day try out period Girls were selected for the team on the basis of tournament standing attitude ag gresslve playing attendance and basic skills Braveman-Clark held the first place standing for doubles teams. Second, third, and fourth place ranking was as followingg Castellanos -Kermode, Otto- LaVigne, and Gallegos-Duenas. The number one singles position was fulfilled by Paula Horsley. Karen fulfilled by Paula Horsley. Karen Fazio held second place, Lucy Yanez in third. Singles players Maggie Gonzales and Lauren Compomizzi held fourth and fifth place, respectively. A new twist was added to the bad- minton schedule this year, team mem- bers being given the opportunity to attend a badminton clinic at North- view, Tuesday February 28. Instruc- tors were the women members of the U. S. Traveling Badminton Team. They trained the girls on smashes, backhand and forehand shots, short and long serves, and other important skills and maneuvers necessary to play a strong game of badminton. Coach Caroline Jones felt that the varsity team was enthusiastic and had the determined attitude needed to achieve success. She also believed that the team anticipated a winning season after working diligently on a conditioning program for two months.
