A hard-working group of girls compounded this year's J.V. girls' basketball team. Although inexperience seemed to hinder them throughout the season, the girls overcame this with their hard work and hustle. Leading this group of girls were sophomores Chris Heinze and Geneva McNamara. Heinze and McNamara both played on the team as freshmen and were powerful offensive threats. Cindy Cohen and Chris Metts were two other members of the squad who contributed greatly. Cohen, a sophomore, also played on the team for the second year in a row. Metts, a transfer stu- dent from Torrance, was a pivo- tal member of the team as she played the post. Coach Penter strived to pre- pare these girls for future varsity teams Mrs. Penter remarked that Basketball takes a certain sense to play. You have to know when to move to the open spot and do it quickly. It also takes a great deal of team play and together. 'P' W - , 1

These positions dealt mainly with the offensive part of the game. Two other players who contributed to the squad were Toni Hi- guera and Gus Pizarro, also returning lettermen. Higuera, who played left wing, was said to be one of the team members who con- stantly improved his game. Pizarro, a left fullback, was also com- ing back from a promising year as a junior. ' Coach Hall, a first year coach who attended Azusa Pacific, felt that the team was a hustiing and happy one whether they were winning or losing.
