120 Prom Jia 601' .Qqils and Qeean Jireezes A quiet harbor, sounds of the surf, and stars reflecting their brilliance in the ocean, were all very special parts of the Junior-Senior Prom at Balboa Pavillion. The theme, Soft Summer Breezes, created an appropriate atmosphere, as the Prom was held on May 27, nearing summer vacation. A new experience for many Northview students was having a buffet dinner while at the Prom. The meal was included in ticket price and the menu consisted of a vari- ety of foods such as Roast Beef, Seafood Newburg, and several types of vegetables, salads, and desserts. The ban- quet room, over-looking Newport Harbor, came alive with girls in stylish dresses and escorts in tuxedos at 7:00 p.m. Dinner was served an hour later. Following the final course, the band began to warm up and couples crowded the floor to dance. The highlight of the evening took place at about 10:00 p.m., when the band recessed for the crowning ceremony. The Prom Court, consisting of Delphine Acosta, Rose Castro, Debi Clement, Marian McCutcheon and Denise Miranda, was introduced and escorted onto the dance floor. Janice Higa, the 1977 Prom Queen, was present to crown the new Queen. With rising anticipation, Janice held the crown over each girl's head and a breathless audience waited for the announcement-The 1978 Prom Queen is Marian McCutcheon! An added attraction to the evening was a tour of the harbor on a boat belonging to the Balboa Pavillion. The boat took several cruises during the hours of the Prom in order to allow everyone a chance to see the lighted harbor. Also, throughout the evening, punch was served from a sparkling fountain, and toward the end of the dance cake was provided. The Prom came to an end at approximately 12:00 p.m. and the banquet room was once again empty. As couples descended the beautiful, carpeted staircase, they were already looking back on the evening with pleasant mem- ories.
