Mr. Gibbs and Martha Brewster playfully flirt with one another., '- Q nv ' f'::':f ,,.f . -- ' .t fa' 1 , , z' sf '3 t 5. ik' Talking about their future marriage, Mortimer Brewster assures Elaine Harper of his true love. , A - -f udiences Jlpplauci Ulfs nie 41126616 .Bucci Gomliinaio ofciliy l ry and Gomedyg Concerned about Teddy's future home, Dr. Reverand Harper and Abby Brewster consider sending Teddy to Happy Dale Mental institution. Arsenic and Old Lace-.' produced by Play Productions toward the end of the first semester, was centered around the hilarious antics of two elderly sisters, Martha and Abby Brewster. These two women engaged in murderous activities involving helpless old men who sup- posedly had nothing to live for. The old men, pitied by the Brewster sisters, were sent to an expected peaceful eternity with just a few sips of the old ladies' homemade elderberry wine-which was spiked with arsenicl As the plot became more mysterious. nephews of the two ladies became involved in the treacherous activities. The fast-moving play progressed into a frenzy of comedy. 'Arsenic and Old Lace' was accixrately described as bizarre, and it was definitely amusing. The first semester play was successful and obviously enjoyed by the audiences. 'Arsenic and Old Lace' required much thought, work. and creativity put forth by each student involved in Play Productions- from the student directors to the stage crew. The student director for the play was Javany Martinezg his responsibility was to organize the play's progress: the rehearsal. promotion, and final production. Also contributing a large amount of time and energy to the first semester success was Dave Barackman, technical director. He was in charge of stage managment: setting up lights, and designing and building the stage with its props. The cast and stage crew devoted many hours to rehearsing lines, and making sure that the play would run smoothly from scene to scene. Rehearsing every day after school, for what seemed like an endless number of weeks. these students proved their true interest in the field of drama. Ms. Elle Dowd. drama teacher here at Northview, was director of the play. This was her first year as drama teacher. D . 'Arsenic and Old Lace' was performed for the public on December 7, 8, 9 and 10 in the Northview Cafeteria. Y ' x.

1 Sophomore Prince Ken Tragarz and Princess Teresa Balazs - 5. I 7 l x Girls' League member Becky Hostetler serves thrist quenching punch to Eric Kaplan and Glenn Frobose. f, ...z Freshman Prince Jamie Balibrea and Princess Laura Bailey Snowflakes are Falling, Christmas Is Calling, may not des- cribe a typical southern California winter, but it was an appro- priate theme for this year's annual Christmas Ball, sponsored by Girls' League. The fact that it was raining rather than snow- ing did not hinder in the least the spirit of this festive occasion. Approximately 150 couples attended the dance, joining in the celebration and listening to the music of Longshot. The ball- room was decorated with hanging styrofoam snowflakes, huge candy canes and gingerbread men, and a fully decorated Christ- mas tree. As the couples entered Griswold's Pavilion, they passed through an archway covered with snow-painted leaves, and were greeted with a candy filled stocking, a card with the couples' names on it, and a program for the evening. Imitation snow lightly covered the floor, adding to the spirit of the holiday. Halfway through the night, the 1977-78 Christmas court was announced. Each couple passed through the archway and took its place in front of the stage. Then the princes and princesses were introduced beginning with freshmen Laura Bailey and Jamie Balibrea, sophomores Teresa Balazs and Ken Tragarz, juniors Nancy Feilen and Mike Dirienzo, seniors Terri Primante and Teddy Rubio, Cindy Aulwes and Keith Allen, Jodi Hanson and Jerry Patterson. Then the three senior couples waited ex- citedly until Jodi Hanson and Jerry Patterson were crowned king and queen of the Christmas Ball court. Girls' League, who had raised money throughout the year for this night, decorated Griswold's Pavilion and made this year's Christmas Ball an exciting and memorable occasion. ll as .Y i Eric Carreon and Denise Cole wait in line to have their pictures taken.
