These recycled substances are produced again as glass, paper and aluminum, but not always in the same form. In the process, a paper bag may become wrapping paper. Essentially it is the same substance--but there is a difference. | HAVE you heard of recycled clothing and hair styles? No? Perhaps you have heard it referred to as Nostalgia. Does that ring a bell? WE are experiencing a period of Nostalgia right now, whether you realize it or not! If you don't be- lieve me, just get out your par- ents' yearbooks and pictures, or look at the composites hanging in the halls here at school. YOU might get a big kick out of those long skirts, straight-legged pants, saddle shoes, and short hair cuts. But stop and think a minute. According to the fashion experts, the mini skirts and long hair. are being replaced by the longer, knee length skirts and really short hair cuts. In other words, we are going back to the styles that our parents wore. Like it or not, we are caught smack-dab in the middle of a period of Nostalgia! IT seems that rural areas, like good old Garrett County, are always the last to experience changes in styles and customs, But not here at Northern, not this time! You might say we were one jump ahead of the fashion because of Nostalgia Day--1974, here at Northern High School. Everyone had a good time and got many laughs at others dressed up in old-styled clothing. But actually, while having fun, we got a taste of what is coming in the future. Yes, it is coming even to Northern High School --maybe sooner than we expect it or WANT it! MAYBE you're still not convinced. Just sit back and let the facts convince youhere, inthe 1974 NORTH STAR! y we ALARA ES CHOOL LIFE SEPTEMBER Brings Return to School Routine P. 8--RIGHT: Tammy Warnick assists Mr. Davis as he takes the first informal senior portraits, beginning with Diana Durst. This is a year to remember, With its joys, heartaches, and laughter, Some people react with hatred, Some with love. Some with deep feelings for their friends. But you know, It's your Senior year! Kids may say it's great, And at times it is, But they don't realize it's hard, Oh, so hard to leave your friends. Some might make fun, Ridicule and laugh at you for this, But you know, It's your Senior year! Pictures, dinners, parties, and teas, Are all a part of this. Yearbooks, keys and then a diploma, Are all combined to one thing, Your Senior Year!!! Debbie Wahl My mind, twisted, confused, organized, sharp, soft, rippling, layered, rushing, swooping, bouncing round, I find myself. Judy Teets ec ee Never, Never Quit! When everything goes wrong And you feel like quitting, Just remember, Stay in there! When you have one of those days And you could just drop it, Just remember, Stick with it! ’ You'll never get there If you always get discouraged, So just remember, Never, never quit! Kelly Durs 183 184 What is a Friend? A friend is someone who really cares, When you need them they're always there, If you're feeling a little down and out, or even if you have some doubts. A friend is someone who worries about you, And wants to help you no matter what you say or do.
