Youlare.one, Our hopes and dreams, Our aims and goals, Our joys and sorrows, Our problems an d potentials, Are more than one hundred and twenty. You are one. One -- yet you understand each inner life, You have hopes, And you dream dreams for each of us. We thank you For your understanding, For your forgiveness, For your help In bringing us to this point of turning -- This putting off of childhood -- This putting on of adulthood -- And we ask you To help us in our adulthood To become like you, To be understanding, To know ourselves as you know us, To see others as you see them, To become one in your love, And as your children To bring the world together. We who are more than one hundred and twenty Ask you -- who are one To fulfill your dreams in us. Father, In the name of your son Jesus we ask this. Amen, -- Sharon Yoder CLASS MOTTO The past is a vanishing vapor, so let us look to the future as a coming fact. -- Grant Sutherland CLASS COLORS Baby Blue and White 2 CLASS FLOWER Blue-Tinted Carnation CLASS HISTORY The beginning of being full-fleged senior high students -- sophomores -- came to us in the year of 1968. To lead our class as officers, we chose Steve Myers as president, Rodney Warnick as vice-president, and Peggy Sines, Penny Friend, and Linda Glotfelty as secretary, treasurer, and historian, respectively. Five sophomores attained school positions when Nancy Frazee and Cathy Hinebaugh represented our class on the Varsity cheerleading squad, while Peggy Sines and Connie Bowser were chosen to lead our band as majorettes, along with Geni Friend and Carolyn Van Sickle, who had begun their second year. Elected by the student body, Grant Sutherland served as Student Council Treasurer. The highlight was the annual sophomore dance, presented during the spring of the year. Our theme was Incense and Peppermints, '' with Cathy Hinebaugh reigning as the queen. Our junior year soon rolled around with Eddie McKenzie elected president, Grant Sutherland as vice-president, Sherry Augustine as secretary, and Nancy Frazee holding the office of treasurer. Two of the most memorable events of the year were the arrival of class rings and when the Juniors’ honoring the Seniors with the annual junior-senior prom. Our prom theme was 'Shangrila,'' and senior Linda Uphold was selected as the queen. Steve Myers was elected by the Student body as vice-president of the Student Council, while Penny Friend filled the position of secretary. During the summer of 1970, 13 boys from the junior class attended Boys State at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. In the fall of our junior year we selected Cathy Hinebaugh as junior princess in the Autumn Glory Festival with Steve Myers as her escort. September 1970 -- the time had finally arrived; we were Seniors! Our first senior class meeting was opened by our president, Rodney Warnick. To assist him in managing the busi- ness of our class we elected Ken Gilpin, vice-president; Nancy Frazee, secretary; Marla Frickey, treasurer; Cathy Hinebaugh, historian; and Wanda Wilt, parliamentarian. Ready to help our school in cheering, Nancy Frazee and Cathy Hinebaugh began their senior year on the varsity cheerleading squad as captain and co-captain, respectively. The Senior Band had Peggy Sines leading them as head majorette and Barbara Ferguson as Band president. Steve Myers served as Northern's Student Council president. Members of the football team making Tri-Valley Allstars were Rick Brenneman and Denny Glotfelty; Honorable Mention was given to seniors Grant Sutherland, Tim Galica, and Steve Reese. One highlight of the football sea- son was the football team's selection of Marla Frickey as the 1970 Homecoming Queen with Sherry Augustine, Barbara Ferguson, Nancy Frazee, Penny Friend, Cathy Hinebaugh, and Peggy Sines as her court. Also, the senior class selected Cathy Hinebaugh as maid of honor with Rodney Warnick as her escort and Sherry Augustine as senior princess with escort Tim Galica, to represent Northern at the Autumn Glory Festival. Attending All-State Chorus were Patty Ault and Lou Ann Wisor, with Mary Frazee attending All-State Band. Seniors heading the VIKING newspaper were Steve Schlosnagle and Patty Ault, with Marla Frickey serving as editor of the NORTH STAR. During the week of October 16, Ricky Bates attended the Drug Workshop in Hagerstown. Senior pictures, memory books, and senior keys arrived with many other memorable events still ahead for the class of '71. The arrival of announcements, the United Nations Trip, the senior dinner, the prom, the senior picnic, sermon night, and, of course, our ultimate goal -- Graduation! 33 iy hn SENIOR WILL CHRISTINE ARTICE wills to her brothers good luck at NHS.
