Rodger Lynn Garlick '66 November 26, 1947 Died in Service for His Country March 17, 1969 To live in hearts we leave behind, Is not to die. « « gates are mine to open... We are thankful dear God that we are grad- uating this year from Northern High School. We worked hard to get through school and when school ended in the summer time I know a lot of kids were glad. However, when it was ready to start they, or most of them, were ready to come back. I know I was. I am proud that I had the chance to graduate this year 1969 and I am sure there are a lot of other kids proud of graduating this year 1969. UNDEFEATED BASKETBALL TEAM 1968-1969 DEDICATION We, the members of the North Star Staff, in deepest appreciation, dedicate this yearbook to our Varsity Basketball players and their coach, Mr. Patrick Wolfe, for their outstanding work in making this our first undefeated basketball season. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.’ So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. CLASS ADVISERS 46 CLASS PRAYER Father, You have watched us grow into what we are today . . . There were many paths we did not take, many opportunities we did not foresee, and many wrongs committed; still, You blessed us. In times of trouble we look- ed to You for never-ending mercy... . We know, Lord, that without your guidance we would have stumbled and fallen more often than we did. . . Let us view our successes with encouragement ‘and our failures as reminders for improvement . . . Help us ask for the courage we need. . . courage to face the future. . . to correct our mistakes and put them behind us. . . re- membering that if we can forgive we will also be forgiven . We are thinkful for the ability to learn. . . and for the privilege of learning . . . We thank You for our day of graduation . . . for guiding us through these past twelve years without our full cooperation. . . Many times we have rejected Your guidance, only to realize that only You areright--that only You are perfect and good. . . Bless those who have helped us. . . the community in providing us with good schools. . . our parents who have shown an interest in our education, our teachers who have patiently guided us. . . Graduation is a time when we need your help. . . Although we may think we know it all, there is even more to learn. . . Help us achieve our goals honestly . . Whether we go to college or to jobs for which we have been trained, our education has changed and enriched our lives. . . You have helped us gain knowledge, now help us find the wisdom to use that knowledge humanely . . . We pray for understanding so that different groups, no matter what their problems, will be able to solve them together . . . Help us realize our good fortune so that we may strive to help those who are inneed. . . Bless our future homes and help us make them happy . . . Without You our lives would have no real meaning . . Help us know real peace and love in our hearts. . . so that we, the Class of 1969, may become worthy of Your blessings. Amen Flower--Mountain Laurel Colors--Emerald Green and Pearl. Motto--It is the rough road that leads to the heights of greatness. 4 7 CLASS HISTORY In our Sophomore year we chose the following students to lead our class: Pres. --Shirley Swauger; Vice Pres. -- Phil Pugh; Secretary--Linda Wagner; Treas. --Ruth Lininger; Hist. --John Wisor. The Sophomores proudly pre- sented 'Moonlight and Roses as the Sophomore dance, where Ruth Lininger was named Queen. Linda Wagner and Donna Haenftling represented our class on the varsity cheerleading squad while Laura Ross, Karen Frazee, an and Vonda Lowdermilk helped lead our band as majorettes. Out Junior year then came into full swing. The officiers for the year were: Terri Wengerd--Pres.; Donna Haen- ftling--Vice Pres.; Patty Blocher--Sec.; Treasurer--Daisy Beiler; Hist. --Karen Frazee. The theme that the class chose for the Prom was Three Coins in a Fountain, but ''Roman Holiday was a close second. As a com- promise, the two themes were incorporated into one, since ''Three Coins in a Fountain was filmed in Rome. Roman columns lined each side of the gym, enhancing the huge fountain which was the centerpiece. In athlet- ics, George Layman was named to the Tri-Valley All Conference Team for his fine football season, while Gary Reichenbecher was honored as the leading basketball scorer in the Tri-State Area. George Layman was install- ed as Student Council President for 1968-1969 as Terri Wengerd gave up her post as secretary. Eight juniors traveled to Boys State during the summer. They were Rick Bender, Ron Bowser, Ron DeWitt, Paul Durst, Bob Hetrick, Delbert Lechliter, Tom Turner, and Richard Yaste. The big moment finally came. We were Seniors! Class Officers: Pres. --Terri Wengerd; V. Pres. --John Braskey; Sec. --Linda Wagner; Treas. -Gary Reichenbecher; Historian--Ron DeWitt; Parliamentarian--John Wisor. The football team honored Linda Wagner as Homecoming Queen. As seniors, John Braskey, George Laymon, Gary Reichenbecher, and Roger Sisler were selected for the Tri-Valley All Conference Football Team. Sherry Bender and Norma Sines attended All-State Chorus in Baltimore. Laura Lee Ross was cho sen as head majorette and Donna Haenftling as head cheerleader. The second class meeting will be remembered as one of our longest class meetings--where democracy made quite an impression on most of the students. How about it, John Wisor? On April 10, excited Seniors headed to New York for a trip which will always be remembered by those who went along.
