Junior High Rhythm Club The Junior High Rhythm Club was formed this year to help students obtain a worthwhile and wholesome experience from dancing and other related activities. The club has approximately 140 members, This large number has caused the club to be divided into two groups. Sponsors of the club are Miss Aultman, Miss Glover, and Mr. Swauger. Photography Club The Photography Club was organized this November, under the sponsorship of Mr. Riggs. They hope to achieve know- ledge by the end of the year in picture taking, making the print, enlarging and developing the film. Delores Frazee presides in this active group while Carol Fike is vice -presi- dent. Joanne Collier and Mary Ellen Speicher are secretary and treasurer, respectively, Dixieland Band The Dixieland Band is a musical group made up of a group of Northern High School girls under the sponsorship of Mr. Schwing. This group presents a particular type of music known as Dixieland music. The group was organized in 1955 and has played for band programs and the band minstrel this past winter. The group's many listeners feel that they are out- standing and most entertaining. It is hoped by all that they will be seen and heard more frequently in the future. The group includes: Dorothy Edgar-trombone, Juanita Buckel-bass clarinet. Thelma Savage-drums, Donna Edwards-clarinet, Elsie Wright -cornet. Helen Selby-piano. Science Club The Science Club is divided into two parts, biological science and physical science, according to the students' inter- ests. Membership into the Science Club ofAmerica is the group's immediate goal. Some of the club's projects have been completed and many are underway. The completed projects are: the tanning of animal skins and the mounting of animals. Projects underway are the construction of motors, the practice of taxidermy, and the collecting of Garrett County conifers and seeds. Larry McCurdy holds the gavel in this newly organized club. Randall Harman, Reed Layman and Martin Friend are vice-president, secretary, and treas- urer, respectively. Mr. Strauss and Mr. Keplinger sponsor the group. Dramofics Club One of the highlights of the year was the presentation of a hillbilly comedy, Great Smokies, by the group. A dramatic play The Storm was presented in a state dramatic festival in the spring. All productions were under the direction of Miss Tobin, Actors and actresses are: Joe Bender, Rose Lee Chaney, Janet Coddington, Dorothy Glotfelty, Kenny Glot- felty, Gail Kesner, Vida Schroyer, and Ross Selby. They have studied such branches of dramatics as television, radio, stage vernacular, debating and pantomiming. 19
