Maioreftes The student body is equally proud of its majorettes. These pretty girls never fail to give outstanding per- formances. Capable Marlene Patton is head majorette. Shelby Diehl, Judy Friend, Helen Selby,Judy Hone, Elsie Wright, and Louise Coddington com- plete this fine group. Senior Band The students at Northern are very proud of their Band. It performs frequently, but never too often. During this school year the band played for Pep Rallies, Football games, Basketball Games, and Graduation Exercises. Throughout the year, it partic- ipated in a number of parades in the sur- rounding areas, A musical concert was giv- en at each of the elementary schools and the high spot of the year was the concert at Northern in April. Edwin Dean ably heads this talented group. Marlene Patton is Vice-President, Donna Edwards is Secretary, Louise Coddington is Treasurer, and Dorothy Edgar and Thelma Savage are Librarians. Junior Band The Junior Band is made up of approxi- mately fifty-five students in the eighth and ninth grades. The main purpose of this group is toprovide further training and experience in playing as a group. This prepares students for places in the Senior Band. The Junior Band presented a concert in the High School gymnasium in March.

Future Teachers of America The F.T.A. seeks to encourage young people to culti- ate in themselves the qualities of personality and char- cter which are the foundation ofsuccessful teaching, Ac- uaintance with the inspiring story of the schools, the part ree schools have played in the development of our demo- ratic way of life, the heroic pioneering associated with Jeir establishment and expansion, is made known. lt en- eavors to provide young people with specific information bout opportunities in the various fields of education. Janet Coddington holds the gavel in this active, busy ,roup. The otherofficers are: Lorna Ault-Vice-President, leverly Speicher-Secretary, R o s ale e Sisler-Treasurer, lorothy Glotfelty-Point Secretary, Leona Frazee-Libra- ian, and Joe Bender-Sergeant-At-Arms. Glee Club The Senior Glee Club is one of the largest in school with sixty members, Activities for the year included per- formances for various assembly programs, a Christmas Pag- eant, a light opera, an Easter Cantata, a Spring Concert, the May Day Festival and Regional and State Choral Fes- tivals. Donna DeWitt heads the Club. Dorothy Frazee is Vice- President, Eloise DeWitt-Secretary, K a th le e n E m o r y Treasurer, and Betty and Esther Friend-Librarians, Future Nurses of Maryland The purpose of the F.N.M. is to interest students in the nursing profession and to help them become acquainted with the standards a nurse must meet. Among the many activities of the club are: field trips, the investigation and study of various schools of Nursing, correspondence with other Future Nurses Clubs in Mary- land and contributions to The Candlelight Express, a paper published by the Future Nurses of the Maryland State Office. The Officers of the club are: Joyce McKenzie- President, Avon Yoder-Vice-President, Clara Jane Callis- Secretary and Treasurer, and Vida Schroyer-Corresponding Secretary, All-Stale Representatives Ross Selby and Joe Bender represented Northern at the Maryland State Teachers Association meeting in Balti- more, Md. Ross' tenor and Joe's bass helped ma ke the performance a most enjoyable one. n

Library Club The love of books brings these students together. They keep filing in order and attend to issuing reminders to students who have overdue books. Making interesting displays and keeping books in repair occupies much of their time. This ef- ficient group is headed by Eva Schroyer, Vida Schroyer, Judith Friend, and Carol Kinsinger serve as vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively. Mr. Kesner is the faculty sponsor. Bus Patrol The Bus Patrol was designed primarily to maintain good discipline on the busses. In doing so, each student is pro- tected from minor and major bus hazards. Parents, teachers, students, and bus drivers feel much more secure in knowing that these capable people are doing their jobs well. Jr. F. H. A. The Ir. High Future Homemakers of Amer- icais a national organization for girls in- terested in homemaking. In order to be eligible for membership in the club, a girl must have completed one year of home economics and must be in either the eighth or ninth grade, Service to home, school, community, and self are the aims of the club. Patty Friend presides over this active group and is assisted by Patty Frazee. Other officers are: Susan Bowman, secretaryg Teresa Layman, treas- urer, Dorothy Savage, reporterg Anne Friend, Historiang Shirley Fike, Song Lead- ergand Shirely Schlossnagle, social chair- man, Miss Lipscomb sponsors this group. ll Pep Club The Pep Club, under the sponsorship of Miss Tiano. has had many worthwhile activities. It has been responsible for all pep rallies, publicity for ball games, and several sales projects. The club officers are: President- Luanna Fikeg Vice-President- Audrey S. Kinsingerg Secretary- Gloria McCullough: Treasurer- Hazel Mosser.
