It is inevitable that you will face trials and disappointments, competition, and failure on your way to success. But there are certain guide posts that will help you chart your pathway. First, you must realize that privilege and responsibility go hand in hand and one without the other cannot bring you happiness. Secondly, you must realize that each individual has equal worth and dignity and that each has his own particular niche to fill and that his contribution is essential, no matter how small it may seem. Third, you must set worthwhile goals for yourself and you must pursue those goals steadfastly, seizing every opportunity that presents itself, daring to dream while others criticize, and hoping, even when the chips are down. Fourth, you must devote your best energies to helping to achieve peace—peace in your own heart, in your own family, in your community, in your nation, and in the world. Fifth, you must never give up your inherent rights to freedom—remember there is no emergency sO great, no crisis so overwhelming that free people need give up their individual freedoms. Finally, to give your life purpose and direction, you must choose as your guidelines those Christian principles of truth, morality, and brotherhood that have withstood the tests of 2000 years. With courage and integrity and devotion to your ideals—the future is what you will make of it—and what you make of it will be bright and wonderful—and you need have no doubts nor fears.
