Message From The Principal Members of the class of 1953: Twelve years have come and gone, how quickly! You entered school with a feeling of uncertainty, moving into an envirement that was not only new but strangely different. Now, at the time of your graduation there is a strangeness in the realization that you will not be returning to high school in September, Many of youhave completed your formal education, and life itself becomes your teacher, Have you thought seriously as to what you expect life to otter you? Are you waiting for life to treat you kindly, or is there some- thing you must do to obtain success? Your diploma will mean little if you are not able to indulge in concrete thinking, to make rational conclusions, and to take your places as useful and worthy citizens of our great de- mocracy, You have freedom to live as you choose, Yet, you have no right to merely occupy space in this scien- tific world. Your minds and bodies were given to you so that you could develop your talents and help improve the world in which you live. On graduation day you may look back with pride at the job welldone or you may view with regret the many stones you failed to turn, It was an easy matter to do just enough to receive the points needed for graduation but a more noble effort wasneeded for worthy experiences that will stand youin good stead as you enter the highly competitive world that awaits you now, Life itself isa cruel judge. Your success in it depends on the state of preparedness which you have reached, Are you ready to tackle life's problems and overcome them? You who are graduating fill an unusual and dignified place in the history of this school, You are the first class to leave its portals as graduates of Northern High School and you have set a worthy example for your com- trades to follow, I cherish the hope that you will carry with you fond memories of your Alma Mater, Let me assure each of you of my heartiest good wishes and pledge you my continuing friendship, Billiam fy. Pamung
