The society was organized in September, T946, by Oran E. Need, Math instructor and sponsor, for the purpose of acquainting students of engineer- ing with the various fields of engineering and to enlighten the students with the practical phase o fengineering. Under the guidance ot John Thiesing and Oran E. Need, sponsors of the organization, the Engineers have made numerous inspection trips through actual engineering proiects and plants to supplement their academic studies. This organization also sponsors an annual chicken fry and a picnic in the spring. The highlight of the Engineers' activities was the annual St. Patrick's Day festivities. Engineer- ing instructors from the University of Oklahoma ww . de' 194 'bw l S and Phillips' Petroleum Co. at Bartlesville, Ok- lahoma delivered educational lectures and several engineering demonstrations. The En- gineers semi-tormal dance was held March 20, in the college gymnasium and was climaxed by the coronation ot the new Queen, Miss Pat Lemons, who was preceded by Miss Beverly Mclnnes. Mr T . All classes are conducted in the heart of the beautiful exhibition gallery. Original art works by old masters as well as con- temporary artists are exhibited regularly throughout the school year. This year was especially interesting for eleven national displays were seen. The extended loan of a large group of masterworks consisting of oil paintings and bronze sculp- tures were received from the Thomas Gilcrease Foundation. We were the first insti- tution to exhibit paintings outside the foundation. ART students as well as those students whose program will include freehand draw- ing or elementary art for use in education or any of the household arts, find the art department at Northeastern one of the finest equipped in the Southwest. A large and extensive art library within the department: valuable proiection slide library: mounted art plates, all a part of the extensive facilities which have been provided. During the past year the art students held an exhibition of watercolors, drawings and oil paintings at the governor's mansion, Oklahoma City. This was at the invita- tion of Governor and Mrs. Murray. Twenty-five works were shown. ART DEPART . . so ,.w,,M' , ' 4 f ALAN.
