Probably the best point was that coach Layfield let the team work out their own schedules. The team combined ran over 500 miles this season and 4 teammates achieved personal goals, including the great upset over Springfield South." Mike Austin: "l feel it was a privilege to be a part of Northeastern's Cross Country Team. With a small team like Northeastern's, you realize the greatness and importance of team togetherness and with Coach Layfield you begin to understand how a good relationship between coach and athlete is." Howard Wingert: "Of the three years that I participated in Cross Country, I feel that this year has been the most successful, not only by the team's record but also through the many experiences that the team encountered. The Christmas Puppet Show, which the students per- formed at New Moorefield, Ca- tawba, and South Vienna, is just one of their successful produc- tions this year. The students also visited South Vienna, where they taught the children how to make butterflies. The highlight of the year, however, was the Spring Arts Festival, where the students displayed all of their best artwork. With a few mix-ups and e bit of goofing around, Commencement practice ran rather well. V I 1 U H541 "T his is it" is in the minds of the gadu- ating seniors as they enter Northeastern and go to their assigned rooms to pre pare for their entrance. The Senior Clos of Northeastern High School announces its Commencement Ex- ercises, Sunday afternoon, June second, nineteen hundred seventy-four, two o' clock, Northeastern High School Conover Field. In the rooms, friends help one another adjust caps and put on gowns, each nervouslyttalking and wishing all good luck. 3 Finally, the senior class assembles into two lines and ankiously awaits the signal to proceed. The word comes and the lines slowly file onto the field, rela- tives and friends beaming as their graduate passes. The band, under the direction of Mr. Louis Driever and Mr. Robert Gray, plays the traditional "Pomp and Cir- cumstanceuuntil the Class of '74 reaches their seats. The Reverend Brian Wood of the Cataw- ba-Nation Chapel United Methodist Church gives the Invocation. vi Under the direction of Mr. Albert Abrams, the senior members of the choir sing "I May Never Pass This Way Again. " Mr. Carl R. Frazier, Assistant Superin tendent of Northeastern Schools, intn duoes the members of the school board 5 In his meditation on "Changing Aile- gianoas," Rev. Wood spoke meaningft words to the seniors. t l l Mr. Charles E. Price presents the great CLASS OF '74l Mr. Charles W.
