n A significant event took place quietly on board Sunday morning, I an- uary 31. ln a compartment which had once been a Weapons space, the new ship's chapel was dedicated by Chap- lain Wright, U.S. Atlantic Fleet Chap- lain, and our own Chaplain Vest. An organ sits on the right side of the beau- tifully appointed chapel and the bihles of each of the three major faiths rest on the altar. Religious services no long- er have to be performed on the mess decks in make-shift conditions. And the chapel, open 24 hours daily, pro- vides a particularly suitable place where men of NORTHAMPTON can pause in the rush of shipboard routine to be alone with Godf'

The main order of businesswas preparation for the administrative inspection to be held January 27 and 28. The inspection was conducted by Rear Admiral Ben W. Sar- ver and an inspection team from the U.S.S. NORFOLK. The Admin'7 was an important part of the ship's overall annual performance mark and NORTHAMPTON again proved herself ready by earning a grade of outstanding ,

FEBRUARY 1965 On February 1 and 2, after the period of concentrated effort to prepare for the admin- istrative inspection, We relaxed at the ship's party, held amid bunting and flags at Scott Cen- ter in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Every lady attending was presented with a corsage, a full buffet dinner was served, the COMNAVAIR- LANT dance band played, and a variety of en- tertainment passed across the stage-from the ship's own vocal quartets to a performance by the worldas champion paddle ball expert. It was a memorable and marvelous evening. w P
