Daryl Knoke was the team leader again this year. He was among the class "C" leaders in the 100 yd. dash and the long jump all year. AND The Senior Band started the 1970- 1971 school year by marching in the Mabel, Minnesota Steam Engine Days parade and Luther College Homecoming parade. In addition to the marching activities, the concert band performed at the All Vets Day program at North Winneshiek and three concerts, one in February, a "Pop" Concert in April, and a spring concert in May. A fourteen-piece stage part in the production of a musical variety show in the fall. The concert band competed in the state contest in both solos and ensembles and in large groups. Three student partici- in the Northeast Iowa Band Festival at Independence in December, and one, Terry Logsdon, played in the Dorian at Luther College in March. We have made progress toward our goal of improving tone, quality, intonation and musical expression. Perhaps this band has made th most improvement in technical facility. We have rehearsed and performed music from different of history and by various composers with perhaps the most emphasis on American music this year. 15 ROW 1: Beth Underbakke, Rachel Leistikow, Brenda Wennes, Jennifer Danielson, Barbie Danielson. The "snow days" seemed to interfere with most of our winter activities, but what we did do together was fun and relaxing. Our first and most interesting activity was a Junior and Senior High slumber party. We also went skating at Harmony twice which was a brusing success. Something that we want to do more often in the future is to invite more schools for fun nights, such as our basketball games with Mabel. 29 ANNUAL STAFF XI Colleen Sutton, Susan Hovey, Kathy Engelhardt, Rhonda Knoke, Lois Naley, Susan Stortz, Lois Dawley, jean Newhouse, Kathy Keck, Lu Ann Thorson, Assistant Editor, Kris Stoen, Editor, Mr. Sharp, Advisor.
