TONY NERI - Main. ?"" KEN HUMMEL - Main. ANDY NOVAK - Cust. SE N IORS Before we look ahead with grand ambitions, let's all turn back the hands of time for a moment to reminisce about times past. Through the years many things have happened to unite us as the Class of 1983. As freshmen we were shy and inhibited: our fears at meeting the challenge of bigger and better things were vast. Many of us found unexpected adventures: schedules to follow, rooms to find - everything seemed so complicated. We looked at the seniors with admiration. They seemed to have everything together. Our dreams were filled with the thoughts of someday being able to say, "l'm a senior!" Our sophomore year was kind of an "in-between" year. We were beginning to get the "hang of things" and were becoming more involved in the school-sponsored activities. Next came our junior year. This was the year for our magazine sales. We tried to break the goal set by the Class of 1982, only to fall a little short. The profits were sufficient, though, to begin the planning of the Junior-Senior Prom which was then held at Hidden Valley. Our theme was "Always and Forever", and our song was "Endless Love." Along with this our junior year was filled with the anticipation of knowing our senior year was just around the corner. Well, the time just seemed to slip away: our first three years were filled with a lot of happy memories, but we'll most likely all agree, "Nothing beats being a senior." Our senior year was filled with many memorable events. Some highlights were: The Multi Media Q N assembly, the Maple Princess Contest, the Morp, ----k 1 r li ,Y Homecoming and Senior Night, the Court House tours, Band f T j 1 concerts, Band banquets, parades, Chorus, Constellations, and the Prom, to mention a few. The Business Class remembers all their crazy antics aimed at supporting the athletic teams. Mountain Crafts Days and a tour of Mr. Berkebile's new house were standouts for some of the general students. The Academic Class remembers the trips to UPJ and the agony of writing term papers. The Vo-Tech group has fun memories of their VICA workshops at Seven Springs and VICA competition. But, we will all remember the years we've shared. As we go on in life, certain occurences will bring back fond memories of events and old friends. However, we must now look at the present and plan for our future. We will take on a new perspective, not as a student, but as an adult. We are faced with the political as well as the social and economic problems of society. The news is filled with Reaganomics and MX missle, the rise of unemployment and the fall of the economy. The movie theater brings us "E.T.," and the music industry brings us various styles of music, some of the songs we will remember are "Eye of the Tiger," "Mickey" and "We Got the Beat." As we stand back and take a look at our senior year and all the events that have taken place, we will realize we've reached a high peak in our lives. It may be the end of a for- mal education for some, but a whole new outlook on life for all. After graduation we will go our separate ways: College, the service, the job market, families, business and trade schools. Regardless of our direction in life, we must stop and answer the question, "What's out there for me?" 5 GIenn's in control Mike stands by Gary smiles as. . . Trying to foster international understanding and friendship, they began a student exchange program between France and the United States. Since WWII the organization has grown into an internationallinter- cultural exchange program active in 60 nations and 2700 communities throughout the United States. Ursula Seubert and Martin Hunter are North Star's first AFS students. YOUTH FOR UNDERSTANDING YFU stands for Youth for Understanding and is a non-profit international student exchange organization. The YFU program is based on the cross-cultural education experience. A huge inter- national network of families have hosted over 87,000 students in the last 30 years. The students come from 25 countries in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Far East. The YFU students range in age from 14 to 18. Our YFU student is Lisa Forsell from Denmark.
