if -I Agn gif! Sophomores Vicki Schrader and Debbie Grassick spent time in the library doing research work for subjects offered at North Putnam. Atlases and en- cyclopedias were useful items. Librarians R. Dozier and L. Burdine were kept busy. Students found the library to be an attractive and practical place to do research. Many fiction and nonfiction books were checked out.

We enjoyed the World of books. Almanacs, atlases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, periodicals, novels, and the card catalogue were tools used by North Putnam students to aid them in their schoolwork and to open their minds up to the world of literature. Student librarians assisted students in finding needed materials and in monitoring the students in the library. These student librarians learned how it was to be on the teacher's side of the desk. Cassette tape players and some new filmstrips were welcome additions to the audiovisual area of the library. Teachers used the recorders for spell- ing tests, rehearsing speeches, and for giving tests. The library was an extension of academic life through the world of books.
