Through rain, sleet, hail, or snow through the mail our yearbook HAD to go! Through frustration, anguish, and hectic con- fusion, deadlines had to be met, so the yearbook copy would be sent on time to the Hannibal, Missouri, plant to be printed. This year we initiated the use of graphic effects and color in Showcase. Collages, drawings, and crossword puzzles attempted to modernize the image of North Putnam's annual. COUGAR EXPRESS, the student newspaper, suf- fered a bit this year, because there was no journal- ism class. Students were on their own to get the paper out. We enjoyed the World of books. Almanacs, atlases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, periodicals, novels, and the card catalogue were tools used by North Putnam students to aid them in their schoolwork and to open their minds up to the world of literature. Student librarians assisted students in finding needed materials and in monitoring the students in the library. These student librarians learned how it was to be on the teacher's side of the desk. Cassette tape players and some new filmstrips were welcome additions to the audiovisual area of the library. Teachers used the recorders for spell- ing tests, rehearsing speeches, and for giving tests. The library was an extension of academic life through the world of books.
