Girls' Athletic Association kept physically fit this year, The girls were so involved in GAA ac- tivities that everyone kept trim and slim. During the fall Karen Steele, Debbie App, and, sponsor Mrs Cox learned a great deal about physical education at a leadership camp at North Webster, Indiana. Badminton and tennis were early activities, Our GAA participated in a badminton tourney at Lafayette jeff, A volleyball playday was held at Greencastle, GAA basketball played a heavier schedule this year, Splash time at poolside was enjoyed by GAA members although junior and senior life-saving courses were taken by many students, A gymnastics team was initiated this year. A great many bowling scores were improved by GAA girls. A girls' track team got off to a good start as Cindy South won first in the district and regional contests and second and fourth places were won by her at the state level,

Sponsored by Mr, Bonar, the North Putnam boys enjoyed the gentleman's brain game--chess, The students spent much of their free time after school learning the rules of chess and the art of strategy. The Chess Club scheduled several meets, They defeated Greencastle, Again this year the team entered the state chess tournament at Indianapolis. Karen Steele made a lay-up shot for North Putnam in the Greencastle basketball game.
