Eighty North Putnam students starred in the spring musical OLIVER, Mike Reed was cast in the lead, Oliver fMike Reedj was locked in a coffin to be taught a lesson. Mr. Bumble fDave Weberypunished him as the Sowerberrys fClaudia Tracy Bruce ' d Sutherlin, Randy Long, Marsha Solomohj watched. e Q Dearest Cast, After lying dazed upon my living room floor trying to find one good thing that happened last night at rehearsal, I finally thought of one--the phones work. Letters from the directors to the cast often seemed discouraging to the students involved in one of North Putnam's plays, but magically they seemed to pull themselves together after reading such a note. They became alive and presented the audience a realistic portrayal of Helen Keller's childhood in MIRACLE WORKER for their fall production. Stage presence--besides the upstage foot, up- stage gesture, and cheating to the audience, the good actor is a member of an ensemble. He con- tributes to' a total effort. In amateur theatre his energy and enthusiasm completely envelope his audience, Surely the cast of the musical OLIVER worked as a team to present the plight of the orphaned boy Oliver Twist, From workhouse to thieves' den A Oliver's tragedy deepened until he was rescued by a wealthy gentleman and one of the thieves' girl friends. Encores were in order for the North Putnam Thespian troupe this year. 49
