CtlV1tlCS got the students involved. Many extracurricular activities created interest for students outside of their academic requirements. School spirit was spurred on by colorful posters and drawings done by the cheerleaders and members of the pep club. Lights burned both early and late at North Put- nam. With so many basketball teams some teams had to practice before school started in the morn- ings. Students rehearsing for the fall and spring plays returned to school in the evenings to practice songs, dances, or lines. Recreational swimming was open to classes and clubs during the evening. Splash time provided work as well as relaxation for the members of North Put- nam's first swim team. North Putnam really got into the swim of things this year as clubs visited art and science museums, the state legislature, and took other interesting field trips.

David Webber enjoyed the idea of crowning the 1970 queen of the Christmas Ball, Chris Stoker. Steve Goff and Joyce Hill danced the evening away. Cinderella danced at the Christmas Ball. Every couple at the Christmas Ball was Cinderella and Prince Charming in a make-believe world of glitter and tinsel decorations. Indeed, royalty was present at the 1970 Christmas Ball as Chris Stoker wore the crown of queen and Greg Richard was king. Christmas Ball has seemed to have become a tra- ditional event at which girls look their most glam- ourous in formal gowns and special hair styles. The jitterbug, the twist, and the hully-gully may have gone out, but the tradition of stepping on your partner's toes was still in at the Christmas dance. Since the couples were in formal attire, the danc- ing seemed to be at a slower pace. Couples who had never danced to anything but hard rock found them- selves fascinated with the antiquated custom of dancing close to each other. The 1970 Christmas Ball at North Putnam added a touch of magic to the already exciting Christmas season.
