U P H P s ployees. seeing that the buildings and grounds are properly maintained. giving advice to students and teachers. and advising the school board on suggested chan es. are administered carefullv and ambitiouslv. g . . mr. oakes received his bachelor of arts degree at peru state teachers college and his master of arts de- gree from the university of denver. although he is always busy. his office is always open to anyone who wants to visit or discuss problems concerning the school. he is assisted by his secretary. mrs. fern peter- son. 1-.. ernest horacek mary hutton. vice principal of north platte high school and vocational guidance director. is shown at her main desk. where she is often found giving coun- sel or a helping hand to the students of nphs. in charge of attendance. registration. and countless other jobs. her office is always open to students at any time during the day and all remember her smile and cheery greeting. miss hutton received her a.b. at the university of nebraska and her m.a. at the university of wisconsin and the university of montana. mary hutton 9 wedding bells faculty members wilma roes- ler and don erickson were united in marriage on dec. A.. faculty discussion gutter champs carol young, harold Strobel, 1, 3, ham. glenn reinertson, wilma erickson, and sa, clair Sorensen, and mary hutton margaret morton PHUSC during 8 meet in the library to discuss educa- b0WliI1g game I0 Cl'lCClC g6Org6 niC0 tional happenings. mr. strobel, mr. viCh'S Scorekeeping. hamsa, and miss hutton are building representatives. the chalk is poisedg nphs 'welcomed seven new teachers to its faculty this year. they are lamoine carmichael, emily ericsson, merrill godfrey, duane luebe, charles parsley, clair sorensen, and zetha warren. mr. sorensen, who joined the teaching staff at mid-semester, instructed world geography and junior english classes. faculty members are members of the north platte educational association with carol young again serving as sec- retary. margaret morton was elected secretary of the district nebraska education association at their convention this fall. to promote better understanding and cooperation among the various departments of the school. the faculty members have divided into groups with each group having a chairman. department heads include social studies, vernon yanney: mathematics, margaret mortong commercial arts. erma grill: science. harold strobel: and english, lillian cberhart. this year saw the initiation of a lon overdue ractice. teacher reco nition da '. at a s ecial assembly on novem- . . . g P Q g 5 P . u l ber 14, the faculty received the tribute of the student bodv in the form of a saeech from student council resident sq 4 Y 1 n . :I p jim klrkman and corsages and boutonmeres from their home room representatives. teachers were also honored february 25 at the annual business-education day sponsored by the chamber of com- merce. owners and managers of the various firms escorted the teachers through their establishments and explained the operation of their businesses. later in the year the businessmen were guests of the school system and observed the working of the city schools. a highlight of the year was the marriage of two of our teachers, miss wilma roesler of the commercial depart- ment and mr. don erickson of the mathematics department. the couple was married december 29 at st. john's lutheran church in wilcox. nebraska.
