North High, often called an honor school of the West , has indeed pro- duced many distinguished graduates. As proof of this, a study which has fol- lowed the Westinghouse Talent Search winners and thirty-four honorable men- tions, has shown that one of the group was awarded a PhD at Baylor, one a PhD at Stanford, and two PhDs at UCLA. Two of the winners received MDs, one at Stanford and one at the University of Mexico. Six other win- ners are on the teaching staffs of Bay- lor, California Institute of Technology, Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, and Welle- sley. One of the Westinghouse winners is now a research chemist with the Atomic Energy Commission and another was recipient of a grant from Rockefeller Institute at UCLA and is working at the present time with two Nobel Prize win- ners. Numbered among the other gradu- ates of North High are a number now engaged in many professional activi- ties. Among these are seven MDs now practicing in Phoenix, eleven MDs in practice elsewhere, four dentists five engineers and scientists, and five law- yers. One North High graduate, now an engineering graduate of Massachu- setts Institute of Technology, is work- ing for her doctorate at MIT, Two PhDs are currently teaching chemistry, one at the University of Arizona and one at the University of Utah. One North High graduate is now a research chem- ist with General Electric. Another grad- uated with honors from Barnard and received a fellowship in literature and drama at Cambridge University in Eng- land. As another graduating class leaves North High this year, they leave behind them an admirable record of scholastic achievement, of athletic excellence, of achievements in art, music, and in drama, and of a student government program which has done much for the betterment of the school. Yet, they have a responsibility in that they must up- hold the excellent record which past North High graduates have made for themselves in the world. Judging them on past performance, the class of '60 is quite capable of this, and they will add many achievements to this list.

Our auditorium is the hub ot many activities at North l-ligh. Here many assemblies are held each year. Among these are pep assemblies, which are en- joyed by all students and which promote the high spirit so necessary to the win- ning ot the sporting events. Science assemblies, honor assemblies, talent and holiday assemblies,are also among the many held in the auditorium.
