MAO TSE-TUNG, I PRESUME? Watching China from Hong Kong is like scratching an itch without taking your shoe off. --Dr. Harald Jacobson Add to Symposium one more. The death of the Lecture-Artist Series stung someone's conscience, the end result being a long title: The Distinguished Visiting Alumni Scholars Program. Dr. Harald Jacobson, former head of the Desk of Asian Communist Affairs in the State Department, partici- pated in a weekend of seminars. The discussions centered on two particular areas--the world as viewed from Peking, and the Peoples' Republic of China as viewed from the United States. Because of Dr. Jacobson's visit, it was easier to understand why after twenty-three years of Cold War politics the United State finally took its shoe off and scratched the itch.
