They began the system of petitioning for offices and having classes vote on qualified petitioners as is done in our local government. After a rousing campaign the students voted Phil Potter as president, Tom Arntz as vice-president, liz Hummel as secretary, and Dave Bliss as treasurer. Besides their usual activities of sponsoring assemblies, after game dances, the Student Council carried out an extensive citizenship campaign and pur- chased new uniforms for the cheerleaders. The council again voted to send two delegates to the National Conven- tion this year being held in Portland, Oregon. The delegates will bring new ideas for next year's council. 53 atzonal onor oczet ,----1- J Brodruck J Andersen C Oslrowskl J Hclmond dv r A nsfod lreasurer M Eric son presndent L Hummel vlce presudent B Maxwell P Slpmun secretary S Ruch Sllhng A Allen B Ward M loubach A Schultz R Morse G McNuM L Oriquost S Hansen Standing r 9 Glumpse of the Hu C club pncmc sl Bledgoocl, Wilkcg, Ll Miner, JI. I-11 emor and DIRECTED BY RALPH STROUF The Senior Band had a goal in mind from the very start of the school year. They wanted to purchase new crossbands, spats and plumes to dress up their marching uniforms. The treasury, however, plainly showed that the new acces- sories could not be afforded. But the band members were determined in their effort and went on to plan a capacity day with the co- operation of North Shore Garage. The band turned out to make musical publicity and to encourage citizens to "fill 'er up!" The drive was a success and the public got the first glimpse of the accessories at the football games. 72 To raise more money for instruments and music, the band sponsored a pancake supper and sold tickets to the Fred Waring show in Grand Rapids. Along with the financial proiects, the band was working hard on their music and their ef- forts brought them a first division rating at District Festival and a second at State. The year was climaxed with a visit by Dr. Maddy of National Music Camp who appeared as guest conductor at the annual "Band Bounce."
