Administration Administration Works to Further Unity, Education Dr. William Self, a native of New- ton, graduated from Catawba Col- lege. He received his Masters and Doctorate from UNC-CH. He was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, elementary principal, director of secondary education, and assistant superintendent in the Winston-Sa- lem school system before coming to Charlotte. Dr. Self came to Charlotte in 1962 as assistant superintendent. ln the fall of 1968, he became superin- tendent of the Charlotte Mecklen- burg School System. Concerned with both teachers and students was North Mecklenburg's principal, Mr. W. A. Hough. His understanding of the problems of both made North a better school. His patience was enduring, and he held the respect of everyone. Mr. Hough graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in science and social studies. He also studied school administration at UNC-CH. Mr. Hough came to North in 1955. Dr. William Self Superintendent, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Between the conferences with students, teachers, and parents, Mr. Hough spends his time at his desk trying to catch up with all his administrative work.
