This is An Arkansas Story ln lhe hearlland of America lies lhe na+ion's mosl beauliful slrelch of counlryside named for 'lhe Quapaw Indians and spelled Arkansas by explorer Bernard de la Harpe. H' is fillingly called The Wonder Slale, nor alone for lhe marvels of i'I's unbelievable lopography and fab- ulous minerals, buf for il's agricullural and induslrial pro- ducls and 'lhe characler and s'l'amina of ils people. ln lhe cenler of 'lhis slale, on 'lhe norlh bank of lhe river iusl' across from 'lhe capilal cily, is localed Norlh Li'Hle Rock, selling for our srory of one year in +he lives of lhe sludenls who allended one of The nal'ion's greal- esl high schools. Many people helped us lell lhis slory in piclure and phrase, and +o lhem we express aavery deep gralilude. Besides our pholographer and publisher, 'rhese included Governor Orval Faubus, Secrelary of Slale C. G.
