Viking Grows Up J Plans made by last year's staff to buy one good typewriter for yearbook class were voted aside in September by the 1970 staff. They elected to spend their extra S110 on eight pages of spot color. Changing publishers brought a larger book, In order to cover freshmen in 1971, staff asked ASB to raise the price of yearbooks. Emotions ranging from anger to fulfillment, and exhaustion plagued the editors during the year because deadlines coincided with concerts and term papers. Laura Gordanier 141, fearless Madam Editor, organized and encouraged staff members to make their deadlines. Compass Returns Home One of the 1970 changes in effect was that the Compass pub- lication had come back home. Not only had experienced Ad- visor Miss Wade returned to her traditional role with ad copy and the Varitgype machine, but the paper was once more printed in the building by Mr, Backlund. In addition to school news and features, the Compass presented creative writing efforts of students , and horoscopes . Q' Juniors Romanticize a Snowy is Sometimes in winter I love you, When the good times seem like memories, In the spring that never came. Frosted branches and boughs of flocked fir and pine accented the theme Sometimes in Winter selected by the Junior Prom Committee for their ball on November 22, For weeks in advance, hungry students and faculty mem- bers were nourished during the ten-minute break by an assortment of' doughnuts sold by the juniors to cover possi- ble prom expenses. Karen Jordan, Sandy Craze, Dennis Hoem, and Kristy Hoover were some who appeared in the MP room early Saturday morning to work all day fly setting the mood of a wintry evening, Hours later, when Jerry Yeager and Molly Epperson arrived QZJ, they were greeted with the fresh scent of evergreens, and a junior high hostess. An allusion of trees and moimtains enclosed the couples Q31 as they enjoyed conversation and refreshments. Snow- flakes dotbed the floor, and green candles with snowy angel hair enhanced the atmosphere of a December evening, f 4
