The students learn to im- prove their talents by playing various challenging forms of music. They are also taught basic musical theories, patterns, and cultures. Their participation in four concerts each year provides the students with the experi- ence necessary to achieve more advanced levels of musical instruction. Thanks to Mr. Pelosi's careful guidance and patience, this group will always remain a dedicated and potentially strong band of musicians. Concert Band 19

MARCHING MANEUVERS I'm a soul man! Swiss The NKHS Marching Band was very busy this year, continuing its tradition of marching maneuvers. In addition to participating in the half-time show at home football games, the band also participates in three parades each year. These parades include the Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and the Labor Day Parades. The band, accompanied by the flag squad, performed many intricate moves in step with music. Led by Melissa Swiss Devine, the band is recognized under guidance of Mr. Pelosi. The uniforms have got to go. I want to be an airborne ranger! 18 Marching Band

A SYMPHONY OF TALENT The nominees are . . . This year's Symphonic Band was composed of many talented musicians, who were challenged with the most complex musical pieces. Under the leader- ship of Mr. Pelosi, the band admitted members by audition and personal selec- tion only. Each student was expected not only to play advanced level music, but to perform in various festivals and concerts throughout the year. Each year the band travels to U.R.I. to participate in the U.R.I. Invitational, and the State Festival. Last year the Symphonic Band placed first in the Heritage Festival held in Lowell, Massachusetts. Besides competition, the band performed in four concerts this year, as well as an all-town concert and a children's concert. Many of the members of the Symphonic Band reached State level this year by achieving a selection in the All-State Band or jazz Ensemble. Other members partici- pated in the Solo Ensemble Competition and were awarded many high honors. The experience helped the students to gain self- confidence while playing alone in front of judges. The depth and experience this group possesses will allow it to continue its tradition of success in and out of NKHS. K. Anderson, B. Bowen, L. Brown, M. Devine, S. Dube. A Dunne.). Km el, A.
