KEEPING THE BEAT The N.K.H.S. Marching Band continues to express itself as one of the most outstand- ing marching bands in the state. They represented Rhode Island at the New England Exposition at Springfield, Massachusetts. They performed at halftime shows during the football games and also participated in the Homecoming Parade, as well as in the Veterans Day, Labor Day, and Memorial Day parades through Wickford. The Marching Band allows students to expand their music skills as well as bring recognition to the school. The band is led during their performances under the careful direction of Head Drum Major Tilghman Moyer and Junior Chum Majorette Melissa Devine. Mr. Pelosi gives a great deal of his time and patience to insure that the band will continue with its successful reputation. Is it time for my drum solo? “I’m getting paid for this? 24

Hands on . . . Hello. Ms Koulet Speaking’ Have you ever had this problem before? “Welcome to West Bay The West Bay Vocational program is comprised of juniors and seniors from N. K., East Greenwich, and Coventry. Students alternate in three week intervals between the high school and the West Bay Campus in Coventry. The students return to N.K. where they continue with their academic studies, and then return to West Bay for hands on training in a working world environment. This time schedule provides students with exceptionally effective learn- ing opportunities and benefits. Students learn by doing and by finding out what they can and cannot do. West Bay offers trades such as: Automo- tive Technology, Auto Body Repair, Carpentry, Cabinet Making, Nursing, Enviromental Resources, Electronics, Food Services, Machine Technology, Printing and Welding. The West Bay Vocational Staff is headed by the Area Director, John H. Ball, and Assistant Director, Stephen Propatier. The program of technical careers allows the student to choose the one he or she might want to continue with after gradua- tion. Each of the courses is unique in its own way, and allows students to fully develop their skills. One example of the highlights at West Bay is the Food Service course which allows maximum hands on experience for students. The school operates a small school lunch program and bakery that are open to the public. West Bay is a great contribution to the enrichment of our school and the students gain a sense of pride and self achievement. 25 Hey — he's my buddy!”
