According to a recent survey, ever 700!0 of the businesses responding said they would like to hire people with some knowledge concerning a foreign language. Many prominent fast-food restaurants, such as Pizza Hut and McDonalds have businesses in Germany. Corporations like I.B.M. have a need for people who have some type of foreign language skills. Other jobs, such as teaching, translators for the United Nations, and other subsidiary liason employees, require a foreign language. Also, the government employs many people for the United States embassies located in Austria, Switzerland, and France. These are very high paying jobs, and have the added bonus of travelling to other countries, such as Germany, Spain, or Paris. Extensive language training, however, is required for high-level translators. There are special translating schools for this purpose. Otherwise, further study in college is usually necessary to attain a proficiency in any language, although two or three years of high school study may be enough to separate the non-language student from the language student in the business world.
