This is only an example of the creative projects attempted in the English classes at Northtown. Time consuming and mind boggling term papers might ha ve caused students to lose sleep, but even the most sleepy woke up at the sight of some of the English class guest speakers. The appearance of Tom Burleson, the center of the Kansas City Kings, was one of these eye-openers. Another eye-opener came when the sophomores had to take the Language Arts ProHciency Test. I. l. Mr. Patrick White: Band. Bannerettes, Orchestra, Applied Music, Theory and Harmony 2. Diligently Matt Warman practices his violin. 3. A Cappella, including Shelby Sims, Scott Maley, Bev Brenton, Bill Kearns, Becky Jones, Mike Nolan, and Carrie O'Dell appear before the judges at contest. 4. Mr. Jerry Carpenter: Fundamentals of Music, Concert Choir, Music Appreciation, A Cappella, Bass Chorus, Treble Chorus 5. While a student teacher looks on, Mr. Jerry Carpenter points out how it should be done. 6. A busload of elated musicians return from a successful trip. 7. Bryce Strong relaxes after a competitive da y. I We are the Champions echoed through the halls of Northtown upon the return of the many well-deserved one rated members of the music department. Congratulations were received after both the District Contest was held at William Jewell and the State Contest which was held at Columbia, Mr. Jerry Carpenter, head of vocal music, and Mr, Pat White, head of instrumental music, played vital roles in preparing the students for performances throughout the year.
