They are charged with the responsibility of managing the educational affairs of the district. They may delegate some if their duties. but the primary responsibility for the success or failure of the educational program rests with them. They make or ap- prove all major policies regarding the opera- tion of the school. The vote of the people granted ap- proval to proceed with the creation of a regional high school district. and authority to provide funds by taxation and a bond issue. The fultillment of these plans was made pos- sible only by the interested, unselhsh and co- operative etforts of the members of the Board of liducation. Some members of the present 0F EDUCATION Board haye been associated mth this regional project since its inception. Others Came on the scene later but all have contributed much in time effort and thought in bringing the plans to '1 successful completion. These con- tributions were frequently made at much per- sonal sacritice. The extent and quality of the educa- tional program. the physical equipment avail- able and the number and training of the profes- sional staff all reflect the attitude and philos- ophy of the Board of Education. lYe. the present students of North Hun- terdon Regional High School, feel that the Board has provided us with opportunities for education and personal growth that ranks with the best. lYe are indeed fortunate that our board has so ably performed the duties with which it is charged. At the end of the first week twelve girls were selected as Var- sity material and twelve as junior Varsity. These junior -Varsity members also hold the honor of being members of one of the first Junior Varsity teams to compete in interscholastic basketball in our district. Uniforms, purchased by the Athletic Asso- ciation were dark green, and the girls made a nice appearance in them. The team chose joan Mulligan to be cap- tain of the Varsity squad and Mary Gares was elected junior Varsity captain. Nevertheless, the show went on and the cast of Meet Corliss Archer brought laughs and sunshine into the hearts of those who battled the elements. Behind the scenes, another drama was un- folded as nervous actors and actresses waited for their cues. "ls it time for the horn ?" "VVhat page are we on P" "Gosl1! I'm losing my voice l" "Don't trip on that plugf, So it went, actors rushing to change cos- tumes, and others anxiously following their books as though it was their first reading. This plot within the play was frequently interrupted by thunderous applause. Perhaps the most amazing thing was the cast. Such a performance! As they came from the stage, they shook like leaves in the wind. Upon the sound of their cue, a transformation took place, and they re-entered their parts in complete control of the situation. Music From the pink halls of music on Regionals second floor anything from Bach to be-bop may be heard. The former may come from any of the four glee clubs, or even one of the two bands, while the latter is sure to come from the dance band. If a casual listener in the hall happens to hear a combination of the two -or something in between--resounding at the same time, it is nothing to be alarmed about - the mixture merely results from earnest musicians practicing in the two practice rooms while classes are going on in the music room itself. Miss Neuwiesinger leads the Girls Glee Club in a. rousing chorus of Angels from the Realms of Glory Their endless and sincere rehearsels proved successful Their singing was enjoyed by parents and friends i 'VAX GIRLS A GLEE CLUB FIRST ROW: Miss Neuwiesinger, Gloria Fulper, Shirley Laube, Jeanne Seaman, Ellen Samogi, Gloria Maxwell, Alice Plushanski, Peggy Johnson, Pearl McElroy, Barbara Stevenson, Nancy Sammis. From the podium of Rudolph Bing to the podium of Miss Lois Neuwiesinger is even a shorter distance. The obvious proof of these statements was evident when the "Regionettes," under the direc- tion of Miss Neuwiesinger, presented MAKING THE MET. After the per- formance, the audience departed with a sense of satisfaction and an awakening of the harmony which lies always in every human heart. Williamson, Betsy Bigelow, joan Willis. As gun shots echoed across the halls of 'Regionaln and dastardly villains hit the dust, the "Honeytones", with the aid of part of the Male Glee Club, gal- loped at full musical tilt into their presen- tation of DO.Y'T FENCE .UE IX. The audience was carried hack to the days of the Old XYest when XVild Cat Kelly fought a musical hattle, to the death, with the sheriff. At the end of the musical drama, XYild Cat Kelly breathed his last while gasping out, in treinolo, "Don't Fence Me ln." The audience enjoyed the entire production and on the way out, they col- lected their spurs and ten gallon hats, which they had checked. 90 CAST AND CHORUS OF "DON'T FENCE ME IN" SEATED-FRONT ROW-Left to Right: Pearl McElroy, Shirley Laube, Gloria Maxwell, Shirley Oakes, Nancy Sammis, Elsa Letten- mier. THE REGIS The Year Book Staff was the biggest school production - and its staff was one of the busiest. It all began in the early part of the first semester. Meetings were held and top offices were filled with students, who were elected for their jobs by their fellow classmates. The first task was to choose a name for this initial publication. "The Regis," meaning of the king, was finally adopted. More problems were on their way. Hours were spent in deciding what SEATED left to right: Mary Jeanne Marek, to put in, and how to put it in-whether to use stein, Jimmie Stock, Bernard Vanderveer, letter press, or offset?-should we have double dividers, or single dividers? These, and many other questions, had to be solved before the final product could roll off the press. Each day, Mr. Speirs would ask if we had written our copy-and each day, he became a i little more worried. Mrs. Rittenhouse had experi- l enced the many situations before and took it Cas much as was possiblej in her stride. Both were willing to give up much of their time and energy -and both deserve well-earned credit for our book. N YEARBOOK EDITORS AND ADVISERS SITTING: Miss Moreau.
