The first signal bell rings and the performers enter the arena--Floodlights pour brilliance into the rings-A great roar goes up - The show is on - The band blares - Jaunty clowns jostle their way through the crowds. The more daring per- formers start to climb the lofty canvas heights while others remain earth-bound to break through the shining circles. As one troupe retires to the side-lines, another steps forward. In the spotlights, the high-hatted ring masters prance about, waving their whips with harmless hauteur as they direct and weave harmony into the big show.
