We cannot really say goodby because there are many things that we will always remem- ber about our high school days. We can never forget the friends We've made, many of whom will always remain in our memories. We can never forget the many people who helped us through, and taught us during the last three years. To these people we offer our effincere thanks and gratitude. Many of us will enter the armed forces immedi- ately. Cthers of us will go on to college or to work. Y Sporfa zuiew by GARTH RoUsE Four out of five league championships and one runner- up gave North Hollywood its most successful Spring sports season. Championships in tennis, gymnastics, A' track, and baseball turned the trick. REGAIN ED CROWN North Hollywood regained the Tennis Crown after hav- ing lost it to Verdu o last year After losing the opening matches to Fairfax, ie tennis men came right back to take Harvard and the Valley teams by beating Van Nuys, 5-2, Verdugo, 7-0, Canoga Park, 6-1, and San F emando, 7-0. Al Cimaglia played first singles and Callahan, F einer, Lieber, and Maley played second to fifth singles, in that order. The first doubles team consisted of Dave Lorenz and Parker, the second, of Lee White and Willard. FIRST IN VALLEY Following right on the heels of the tennis champion- ship, the gym team came up with another championship, whipping Valley teams with such scores as 90-30 against Van Nuys, 103-17 against Verdugo, and 9114-2814 against San Fernando. SIXTH IN CITY The gym team topped this very successful season with a win in the Valley finals and sixth place in city. Cameron and Heuer made the points for the Huskies. Cameron, the only Huskie ever to place first in the city, won in tumbling. Jack Heuer also did something that has never been done before by placing second in the long horse. Cameron, proving himself to be more than a one-event man, came up with fifth in the same event. Others who helped make a strong team for North Hollywood were: Cook, Munster, Courtemanche, Pierce, Rumer, Monzello, Laffoon, Warren, Sparrow, Tozer, Patton, and Day. VALLEY CHAMPS With tennis and gymnastics fading away, Huskie fans tumed their attention to track to find we had a very strong team. Led by Captain jeff Lawson, mighty 440 man, this team swept the league, piling up such scores as 78-38 against Van Nuys, 94.9 over Verdugo, 7534-283i against Canoga, and 73-41 over San Fernando. Consistent point men were Bill Crandall, jeff Lawson, Bill Munster, Frank Smith, jack Doole , Dick Roemer, Bill Tenny, Ben Derden, Walt Mikesell, Chuck Satterfield, Bill Beggs, Jerry Milner, Boyce jacques, Keith Limberg, Don Shinkle, Bill Felts, Frank Comelson, Bill Pagones, Ed Nettles, Garth Rouse, and the relay team of Derden, Tenny, Jones, and Lawson. BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD Climaxing a very successful season by breaking the school record for the 440, Jeff Lawson went to the city finals and, with the handicap of having the last lane, ran the distance in 50.7, a full second under the old school record. Bill Munster, not to be outdone, tied for third in the pole vault. The North Hollywood relay team took second behind Van Nuys. These events totalled 1115 points, enough for sixth place in the city. - n VALLEY MEET CHAMPIONS The track team from North Hollywood High completed a successful season by taking second place in the league dual meet standings, and winning the league meet cham- pionship. From the beginning of the season they started out on a victory spree by lashing out wins over Van Nuys, Verdugo Hills, and Canoga Park. But then San F emando came to town in the form of a very strong track squad and barely nosed out the Huskies, then we got revenge on San Fernando by taking the league meet title. San Femando was their closest opponent but they were about 13 points behind the Huskies. At the city finals Walter Catts, Don Patton, and Chalmer MacWilliams qualified for the meet but the scoring was done all by Catts, who recorded eight digits for the Huskies and ut them in eighth spot. Bdlow is each event and the boys who competed in each: 100-Walter Catts, Don Harold. 220-Walter Catts, Don Harold. 660-Reggie Duflin, john Lakin, jim Luntzel. 1320-Ed Liebman, Chuck jacques, Chas. Lieber, Donald Dawe. Hurdles-Don Patton, Dick Connors, Robert Merz, Terry Taylor. Relay team-Walter Catts, Don Harold, Don Patton, Reggie Dufiin. Broad jump-Walter Catts, Keith jackson. High jump-Dick Emmons, Bill Webb, Bill Black. Pole vault-Don Patton, Bill Cameron, Varett. Shot put-Chalmer MacWilliams, Mike Doty, Earl Laffon. THIRD CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR HORSEHIDERS The Baseball Team came through to give North Holly- wood its fourth championship this spring by winning 7 out of 8 games. After splitting with Van Nuys they slapped the rest of the teams in the league with 6 straight wins. Verdugo, Canoga and Femando were the victims in the last three double-headers. The climax of the season came in the first Canoga game when in the last half of the seventh and with three runs 'needed for a win, the boys came through with just that, to win 5-4, and the following week they cinched thefchampionship with a double win over San Fernando, giving NH the Baseball Championship for the third straight year. The credit for this must be given to Ca tain Bill Crandall, next year's Captain Bill Langford, Bog Boyd, Frank Darien, Tucker Thompson, Benny Lorino, Dick Allen, Paul Snyder, Dick Linde, Dick Feiner, Herman Falk, Garth Rouse, and Jack Van Nostrand. The success of the team must also be credited to Bill Meier- stein, First Base Coach. These boys really came through with the chips down on several occasions to give you another championship. SPLENDID IOB DONE BY COACHES While we are giving credit we must not forget the fel- lows who worked many trying hours moulding and form- ing these championship teams: Coach Elliot, who brou ht back to NH the Tennis Crown, with a cham ionsgip team, and helped the Tracksters to Crowns, Coacll Berry, who coached the Gymnastists to the Valley Title, and Coach Smith, who mentored the Huskie Horsehiders to their third consecutive Crown.
