Some people look back upon that period as the bicycle, or horse-and-buggy da before the construction of good roads and the manufacture of autom biles. The tide of emigration was moving westward toward the grea plains. The educational needs of people were apparently simple. Learnin took place in the little red school houses where the curriculum consistef chiefly of the A'Three Rs and democracy in education was practicall' unknown. Today the American high school youth must look forward to world in the throes of a great change. They must prepare themselve for life in the world of tomorrow with no clear picture of what tha life will be like. My very best wishes to all students for a satisfactory adjustment ii these rapid, unpredictable, challenging times of change. The Gay Ninetiesu will always be remembered as a Y o GREETINGS TO MY FRIENDS- I entertained friends in my home this week while sitting in my living room with my El Caminoes before me, Perhaps some ears burned as I lived again with students and faculty of the past twelve years in North Hollywood I-Iigh School. As I leafed through the pages I found myself singing with Nina, thrilling again at the sight of our Hrst touchdown. feeling proud as I saw our band parading down the Held. An array of people and events passed before my eyes - student body presidents, Ephebians, athletes, a bevy of girls and boys enjoying their clubs, banquets, proms, and graduations. All of them were boys and girls who have brought to this school their contributions, forming a chain to which you and those following you may add your link. We are a small unit in a large country, a single link in a mighty chain. May our link be strong in helping our Nation to fulfill her des- tiny. FLORENCE J. SEAMAN, Girls' Vice-Principal. IRL C. The club was organ- ized in 1939, with fifteen members, and has grown to nineteen members. The dashing fire horses of the Gay Nine- ties have been replaced at North Hollywood High by a streamlined Fire Commission. They proved it by taking the first Varsity Championship in Basketball North Hollywood ever had. Led by Allyn Jones, highest scoring center in the city, and Stonewall Nielsen, one of the best guards in North Hollywood's history, the Huskies proved a hard combination to beat. Allyn Jones, first string All-City center, was a remarkable shot with either hand, and amassed a grand total of 160 points, and was further honored by being chosen captain. Losing to Van Nuys, 40-35 in the Hrst round, the Huskies took the Wolves into camp in the second round, 55-45, thereby winning the championship, So, we say, Hats Off! to our first championship team in Varsity Basketball. In Jack Wilson, pitcher, North Hollywood had the best chucker in the league.
